The Gambols, by Barry Appleby
'The Gambols'.

Barry Appleby is best known as the artist of the newspaper strip 'The Gambols'. He should not be confused with British humor comic artist Barrie Appleby (b. 1943).

Coming from the West Midlands, he became a freelance contributor to boys' papers and trade papers after leaving school. He became sub-editor with the Daily Express later on. For this paper, he created his family comic, which began publication on 16 March 1950. The strip's script was written by Barry's wife, Dobs, and largely based on their own lives. Barry Appleby has also drawn 'Skit and Skat'.
