'Jan Lul en de Flauwe Cultuur'.
Bram Vermeulen was a Dutch comedian and singer, originally famous as one half of the politically conscious cabaret duo Neerlands Hoop in Bange Dagen, with Freek de Jonge. He later had a succesful musical solo career. In the early 1970s, Vermeulen was also active as a comic artist. Together with Herman Brood, Corver and Fay Lovsky, he was one of the few Dutch musicians who had a notable excursion in comics.
Bram Vermeulen was born in 1946 in The Hague, The Netherlands. He studied psychology in Amsterdam and performed as a comedian together with Freek de Jonge in the music and comedy show 'Neerlands Hoop in Bange Dagen'. He became an all-round stage-artist, performing, directing, writing and singing, but he also painted and made comics in the early 1970s. He drew strips like 'Gé Dubbelkluts' and 'Gijs Goochem' for magazine Plus (1972-1974), and made 'Jan Lul en de Flauwe Cultuur', a promotional comic for Culture for Youngsters in The Netherlands. This comic was banned in the Roman Catholic South of Holland because of its use of swear words. Vermeulen continued to work as a solo artist on new music and theater productions, and passed away from heart failure while on holiday in Tuscany, Italy, in 2004.
